Community Development Through Polytechnics (CDTP)

Scheme of Community Development Through Polytechnics was started by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in February 2010. This scheme is meant for SC/STs, OBC, women, school dropouts, minorities, physically disabled, economically weaker sections of the society and other underprivileged persons. In terms of career options for most of such people, quality education and higher technical and professional education is unaffordable. Indian Informal sector is to depend upon relatively low paid manpower trained through a non-formal system of skill development. So there is an urgent need to train millions of persons through a countrywide network of non-formal skill development. This network can also help in the adoption of appropriate technologies among rural people and slum dwellers, sustainable use of technology, repair and maintenance services and free service camps from time to time.

The five main components of this scheme are:-

  • Need Assessment Surveys
  • Skill Development Training Programs
  • Technical and Support Services to rural masses and slum dwellers
  • To create awareness about technological advancement and contemporary issues
  • Dissemination of appropriate technologies
